(Coventry, Rhode Island) QT Fabrics traces its roots to Cranston Print Works, one of the oldest textile manufacturers in the United States. As part of this enduring legacy, Cranston Print Works established a long-standing tradition of supporting the next generation of designers through an annual scholarship to a creative Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) student.
Since 1976, Cranston Print Works has funded scholarships recognizing excellence in design. The first award honored sophomore or junior students in Apparel Design, while a second scholarship, established in 1992, continues today – awarded to a RISD undergraduate focused on print design in the Textile Design program.
On Friday, May 2, QT Fabrics participated in RISD’s annual celebration of scholarships event. “It was a lovely evening” said Kerri Dacey, Vice President of QT Fabrics, “bringing together students, faculty, sponsors, and alumni to celebrate RISD’s mission and the students pursuing their passion in art. The energy in the room was incredibly positive and uplifting.”
Several inspiring speakers took the podium, including RISD President Crystal Williams, whose leadership continues to expand the impact of creative education. A shared theme throughout the event was captured in the repeated reference to Friedrich Schiller’s quote: ‘Art is the daughter of freedom.’
QT Fabrics congratulates Cheska Chiang, Class of 2025, this year’s scholarship recipient.
